Sibu The Swan City

Sibu is the third largest division in Sarawak, after Kuching and Miri.. it is named after the rambutan fruit, known as “buah sibau” in the Iban language..

Sibu division has three districts, namely Sibu, Kanowit and Selangau.. and the Sibu town is the capital of Sibu district..

the Sibu Cultural Heritage Museum.. it was previously the administration building of Sibu Municipal Council..

this is Ding Bian Hu (known as bubur kuali in Malay language).. it is a rice flour-porridge cooked on the surface of a heated wok..

this is the Kompia.. the characteristic of Kompia is, there is a hole in the center of the bread.. it was originally invented by a Ming Dynasty Military General Qi Jiguang for his soldiers so the bread could be strung together and carried along during the war..

nowadays, there are few different types of Kompia serving..

the wet Kompia with stewed pork..

the dry Kompia.. the bread is crispy..

most of the restaurants in Sibu use paper box for tapao (take away) instead of polystyrene box..

economy dinner.. white rice, roasted pork and fried Bidin (local vegetable, a type of fern) with free soup for RM 10.00 only.. at Sibu Central Market..  🙂
